Roofing warranties explained
A roof normally carries two separate warranties. Understanding the difference helps you know who to call and what is covered.
Manufacturer warranty
The shingle manufacturer warrants its materials against manufacturing defects. The length and terms depend on the product line you choose, and many manufacturers offer enhanced coverage when a complete roofing system from the same manufacturer is installed. Manufacturer warranties usually require that the roof was installed according to the manufacturer's instructions and, in some cases, that the warranty is registered within a set period after installation.
Workmanship warranty
Our workmanship warranty covers the quality of the installation itself: how the roof was laid, fastened, flashed and sealed. If a problem is caused by the way the work was done, we come back and correct it. The length and specific terms of the workmanship warranty are set out in writing in your contract before any work begins.
What warranties do not cover
Warranties generally do not cover damage from severe weather events, falling trees or debris, foot traffic by other trades, alterations made by others after installation, or problems caused by a lack of reasonable maintenance such as clogged gutters. Storm damage is normally a matter for your home insurance.
Keeping your warranty valid
- Keep gutters and downspouts clear so water drains properly.
- Have moss treated before it lifts shingles, using methods approved by the shingle manufacturer.
- Call us before other trades install anything that penetrates the roof, such as solar panels, satellite dishes or vents.
- Report leaks or visible damage promptly rather than waiting for the next dry season.
Your documents, always available
Customers with a reinstallation project receive a secure online document vault holding their contract, building permit, manufacturer warranty registration and our workmanship warranty, so the paperwork is never lost when you need it, including if you sell your home.
